Enjoy something different22 June 2021 | Admin Cold brewing tea is simple and works well for many loose leaf teas, including black, green, white, oolong and herbals. Loose leaf tea is preferred since its large leaves produce the most flavour as they unfurl in the water. It is impossible to oversteep cold brewed tea, which means an absence of the astringency and bitterness associated with the release of tannins in hot brewed tea. The resulting tea has a much lighter, subtle taste. To make cold brew tea, we recommend that 1.5 the amount of loose leaf tea normally used for a hot brew tea is allowed to steep in a fridge for 8 to 12 hours. Using filtered of bottled water will improve the taste further as they avoid the effect of chemicals that are added to tap water. The quantity of caffeine is reduced in cold brewed tea as it tends to have up to two-thirds of the caffeine of its hot brewed equivalent. It also tends to infuse its antioxidants very slowly. For instance, after eight hours, cold brew tea will have less antioxidants that hot brewed tea, however, after 12 hours it will have more. Shaking or stirring the cold brew will quicken up the infusion time. Enjoy! |
