Enjoy a better tasting tea22 June 2021 | Admin Tea leaves need room to expand for full flavour. When steeped in an infuser, loose leaf tea leaves unfurl and expand. Flavours come to life, providing a more aromatic and flavoursome cup. In comparison, during infusion tea bags prevent the tea leaves from unfurling to their true potential, limiting the taste of the tea. Tea leaves are sorted into grades ranging from the high quality Orange Pekoe, to the low quality, dust and fanning which is left over from the production process. The tea used in tea bags tends to be of low quality and is extensively the dust and fanning. These finely broken tea leaves lose most of their essential oils and aroma, and when steeped release more tannins than loose leaf tea, resulting in a more harsh, bitter flavour. On the whole, the freshness of tea bag tea can be a problem. Tea bag tea is typically produced on an industrial scale, involving greater exposure to air, which can lead to a lack of flavour and the tea going stale quicker. |
